3D printed fashion by Iris van Herpen

This recent collection by Dutch designer Iris van Herpen really caught my eye. I particularly like the structural quality of her clothes, and love the fact that she is embracing 3D printing technology to create them.

Beard envy

Maybe it’s my failure at being able to grow a full-on beard, but I really want one of these. Or maybe it’s because I’m a twat.

Alchemia Mysteria by The Non

The clothes of The Non are not for me. Not that I don’t like them, but I need help in the masculinity department, not hindrance.  The art direction of these photos from their Spring/Summer 2010 collection is spot on.

Björk tribute to McQueen

Björk sent out a message on Twitter a few days ago linking to this tribute on her site. It’s nice to hear another creative hero of mine putting in to words what can be so difficult to express in a few lines.

Alexander McQueen – A loss of more than talent

Like many people today, I learned that Alexander McQueen was found dead in his home this morning.

I was surprised to be upset by this news.

I have more than a passing interest in fashion, but in terms of what’s ‘in fashion’, I am like most – oblivious. The world of Haute Couture and high end trends are largely unknown to me. Save for the work of this man.

From his expert knowledge of how to cut fabric, nurtured on Savile Row, to his directional ideas about silhouette, he was a great. His clothes were full of references. Whether influenced by 50′s starlets or the Victorian gentry, he could mould his creations it in to something new.

Alexander McQueen (Lee to his friends) was a master at his craft. His ability to combine fabrics in intricately detailed form and his eye for colour, texture and pattern set him apart.

His collections were always so beautifully crafted.

His work has always stood head and shoulders above the rest – at least in my opinion.

So I guess that’s why his death upset me, because today I lost a hero.

More of his amazing work.

Wrangle his clothes off

I don’t know whether I like this more because it’s a great (and simple) use of Flash video. Or because you can take Tony Ward’s clothes off and throw him around the stage.
